Out of the thousands of medical procedures performed every year in the United States, obtaining a hysterectomy is the second most performed procedure trailing only behind cesarean sections. There are different options for women today in that they may choose a traditional hysterectomy or opt for a New York robotic hysterectomy if circumstances allow for it. Reasons for a hysterectomy often stem from a cancer of the uterus or cervix but may also be required in the face of an infection which cannot be cured without a surgical procedure. There are also occasions during child birth like the rupturing of a uterus which might require a hysterectomy be performed.
